On Wednesday, November 27th, the six-week training program of the ANALYSIS Fact-Checking Academy was successfully completed in Greece. Journalists and media professionals from the Athens Macedonian News Agency and Liquid Media participated in a blended learning experience, combining online and in-person courses. These courses were led by experts from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Instituto Superior de Tecnologias Avançadas from Portugal and the University of Vienna. The in-person training in Greece featured sessions conducted by Sotiris Sideris, a data journalist and trainer, and Christos Gavalas, Fact-Checking Manager at the Athens Technology Center.
Participants acquired essential skills to identify, analyze, and combat disinformation. The curriculum covered fact-checking methodologies, digital tools for detecting disinformation, and basic techniques for verifying event locations and dates. Additionally, they learned to track sources in the digital age, differentiate the concepts of misinformation and disinformation, and identify patterns of disinformation on social media.
We are confident that the skills and knowledge gained through the ANALYSIS Fact-Checking Academy will empower journalists to uphold journalistic integrity. By fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability, this program contributes to strengthening public trust in the media and builds society’s resilience to the growing threat of misinformation.
